Job at Seeds of Life (SoL) & Ministry of Agriculture as Gender Adviser

Location: Based in Dili with travel to districts
Duration: 2 months in 2013 and annual visits of 1 month for two years
Commencement date: May, 2013

Description of the organisation:

Seeds of Life (SoL) is a program within the Ministry of Agriculture and
Fisheries (MAF) in Timor-Leste with the aim of improving food security in
Timor-Leste through increased productivity of food crops. The program is
jointly funded by the Governments of Australia and Timor-Leste

Terms of reference:

The short-term Gender Adviser will work in close collaboration with members of
the SoL Adviser Team and MAF gender specialist to enable the gender goals,
outcomes and outputs of SoL. He/she will:

1. Review and update the draft SoL Gender Strategy with due regard to the SoL3
program design and gender initiatives of other agencies and NGOs.
2. Prepare and conduct gender awareness courses for SoL and involved MAF staff
working at national, district and suco levels.
3. In close collaboration with the M&E/Sosek Adviser and staff: design and
test an appropriate M&E tool to monitor progress in Gender Strategy outcomes
including community based informal seed production groups and pilot its
implementation, review and improvement

Qualifications & Experience:
• A graduate degree in social science, agricultural science or equivalent from
a recognized university.
• Demonstrated understanding of and some experience in the development and
implementation of gender sensitivity programs.
• Previous work experience in SE Asia with preference for experience in Timor-
Leste.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Fluency in English and at least basic proficiency in either Tetun or Bahasa
Indonesian
